  1. I started a project that I’ve been wanting to start for a while now to help new kin recruits learn to play together, and learn the basics of grouping and instance play.

When my first toon hit 20, I was befuddled by all of this “looking for GB” nonsense. I had a good idea that if was refferring to people looking for group for some dungeon, but beyond that only questions.

As a result, most of my early toons rarely grouped. While solo play is fun, and LOTRO can make it almost too easy at times.

To help us get to know each other, new recruits and lower level alts alike, I’m promoting regular GB runs.

GB is the first set of classic instances that becomes available starting at 20th lvl. It’s a great place to start getting to know how to play your toon in a group if you haven’t yet done much of that. It’s also a great way to get your hands on some decent gear that will help carry you into your 30s.

The key to making this work is having people who know the instance, and have toons in the level range. Keep the level low, 20 is fine for teaching and learning. Don’t raise it higher unless very confident.

If you know the instance very well, try to hang back and let someone who’s more intermediate be the one to lead the way. Whoever knows the instance best should run the group, but let others learn to lead the path through the dungeon.

As we grow we can move this concept to other instances, but GB is such a great place to start!

Thanks again to those who helped on our first run. Overall it was a big success, we did Maze and Thadur. Maze was completed by an all Is Awesome fellowship, while we enlisted the help of a friend from the Knights Who Say Ni to help us get through Thadur.
